About Jill

Artist Statement

My soul is the inspiration for my art.

Connecting to my soul allows me to receive insight and guidance.
It demands that I put aside my ego and allow that Inner Spark to lead me to places I might never access otherwise.

Like a dance it weaves me in and out. Leading and following. One step forward, 2 steps back, turn to the side. This movement creates pattern, flow and unity.
It is a cellular connection, a deep calling from within that begs to be expressed visually. The challenge, for me, is to translate its language into something that can be seen and felt by others.

When that space of true connection is reached, the outcome is pure pleasure. It becomes passionate play, a riot of color, texture, heart and soul. My being is freed and it out-pictures as joy and love. That space of freedom is undeniable. I am left satisfied and breathless. Each stroke is an intended gift of love to the Divine within us all.

Would I paint even if no one ever saw my work? Yes, for it is my prayer. Painting is one way my soul expresses love. And I will not hide from love.

Biography

A San Diego native, now residing in Todos Santos, BCS Mexico, I am largely self-taught. My life is devoted to moving forward, expanding my creative skills and then sharing that with others. Inspiring and connecting to others fills me with joy.

I have been teaching art privately and for various schools since 1979 in both the US and Mexico. In the 1980s, I wrote and implemented the art curriculum for a private school in San Diego, CA. for grades K-8. Ten years later I left to pursue my art career full-time.

Acrylic, watercolor, collage, and metal sculpture are just a few of the mediums I have participated in.

My murals, for clients both private and public, grace buildings in California, the East Coast, the Philippines and Mexico.

I have participated in numerous art shows throughout CA, both juried and non-juried, the La Jolla Festival of the Arts, the Talmadge Art Show and, and Mission Federal ArtWalk among them.

My work has been shown at Agora Gallery in New York City, The Artist Alley in San Francisco, Exclusive Collections Galleries in San Diego, Mangos Gallery and La Esquina Cafe in Todos Santos, BCS.
